The Mogren Foundation annually awards two prizes for human well-being, one each in medicine and classical music. The goal is to promote research and education. The Medicine Prize is awarded to professional clinicians who emphasise empathy and patient contact, while the Music Prize is awarded to newly graduated musicians who have just started their careers.
The foundation's donor and founder is Håkan Mogren, 1944–2021, a Swedish engineer and business leader. In 2012, he established the Håkan Mogren Foundation to promote the development of his two strong interests, music and medicine.
Two awardees are selected annually by the Mogren Foundation Board of Directors with the support of two expert selection committees: one for the field of medicine in partnership with Karolinska Institutet, and one for music in partnership with the Royal Swedish Opera.
The Mogren Medicine Prize is awarded to professional clinicians who emphasise empathy and patient contact. The Mogren Music Prize is awarded to promising new music graduates who have just started their professional careers.
It is not possible to apply for a scholarship from the Mogren Foundation.
In addition to the prize money, each awardee receives a diploma.
The diploma is painted by the artist Bo Larsson, who is known for his usage of light in snow motifs as well as his paintings of Stockholm, often portrayed in twilight and stormy weather, reflecting the shimmer of light in the streams or rain-soaked asphalt.
